A wedding in Tuscany centered on family, design, and simplicity

Some weddings are memorable for grandeur, while others stay with you because of their balance, warmth, and clarity. Luisa and Thomas’s wedding at Fattoria Villa di Rignana belonged to the second kind: elegant, understated, deeply aesthetic, and above all shaped by family.

They are a slightly older couple, already with children, and many of their guests came from the Netherlands — along with many children who gave the day a sense of movement and life from beginning to end. The whole wedding felt refined, but never formal in a distant way. It was thoughtful, relaxed, and full of meaning.

For us, working in wedding photography in Tuscany and wedding photography in Florence, telling a story like this means paying attention not only to the beauty of the venue and the light, but also to the emotional rhythm of the day: the children, the family closeness, the design choices, and the sense that everything belongs together.

Fattoria e Villa di Rignana: a sixteenth-century estate in Chianti

Fattoria e Villa di Rignana is a historic estate in Greve in Chianti, between Florence and Siena, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. On its official website, the property presents itself as a place that combines hospitality, events, and agricultural production, including Chianti Classico DOCG, extra virgin olive oil, and wine experiences; the estate also highlights its organic production. It includes event spaces and a panoramic infinity pool overlooking the Tuscan hills.

That is exactly what makes it so appealing for couples dreaming of a wedding in Tuscany: it is not simply a beautiful villa, but a living place rooted in the landscape. For wedding photography in Tuscany, it offers a complete visual world — olive trees, the private chapel, the lawns, the pool, and the softer, more intimate corners where the light becomes especially beautiful.

A minimal and elegant aesthetic shaped by the couple

Luisa is an architect and Thomas also works in design, and that visual sensitivity could be felt in every part of the wedding. Everything was curated with restraint and precision: the invitations, designed by the bride and built around beautiful photographs and a very clean graphic approach; the dress, simple, pure, and elegant; the small white flowers and olive leaves used with care.

For many international couples, olive branches immediately evoke Italy and the Tuscan countryside. At Rignana, that symbolism works especially well because the decorations feel completely in dialogue with the actual landscape of the estate. The wedding palette reflected this beautifully too: sage green, white, subtle red graphic details, and an overall atmosphere of calm refinement.

The ceremony under the holm oaks: the best choice for warm days

The ceremony took place under the large holm oak trees in front of the villa, rather than in the chapel or in a fully sunlit lawn. It was a beautiful and very intelligent decision. In early September, Tuscany can still be very hot in the daytime, and choosing natural shade makes a real difference for both guests and couple.

In our experience, this is one of the best ceremony spots at Rignana when the weather is warm and a couple wants to be outdoors. The light stays soft, the temperature is more comfortable, and the atmosphere becomes more intimate straight away. In this case it worked even better because of the many children present, free to move and play in the shade while still being part of the ceremony.

The ceremony was led by Luisa’s father, which made it feel even more personal. The groom, strikingly elegant, was accompanied by his mother, who was deeply emotional. The result was a ceremony that felt heartfelt, light, and full of affection, helped by a lovely breeze moving through the trees.

Tuscan aperitivo, Rignana wine, and Roland’s catering

The aperitivo and dinner were handled by Roland’s, which describes itself on its official website as a catering company for weddings and private events in Florence and Tuscany.

It is a supplier that works very well in elegant but relaxed weddings, and here the food experience had a clearly Tuscan identity: local dishes, Rignana wine, spritz, and a generous convivial rhythm that suited the day perfectly.

The presence of Rignana’s Chianti Classico added another layer of coherence to the celebration: not simply a venue in Chianti, but an estate producing the wine served during the wedding itself.

The role of Simona Pierfederici and Tie The Knot Wedding

The wedding was organized by Simona Pierfederici of Tie The Knot Wedding, whose official site presents her as a wedding planner in Italy focused on highly personal celebrations. Rignana’s own event page also explicitly mentions its destination wedding service in collaboration with Simona Pierfederici.

In this wedding, the choice of placing the ceremony under the oak trees is a perfect example of the value of that experience: not just a visually appealing solution, but the right one for comfort, light, and the overall flow of the day.

Sunset portraits near the chapel and the road to La Cantinetta

The sunset portraits took place near the chapel and along the road leading toward La Cantinetta di Rignana, the restaurant that Rignana’s official site says is just a short walk from the estate.

This is one of the most beautiful moments of the day at Rignana. The light softens, the landscape settles, and everything becomes more atmospheric. In this wedding, the sunset worked beautifully with the sage-green details and the couple’s clean, design-led aesthetic.

For us, working in wedding photography in Florence and throughout Chianti, this is where experience matters most: knowing when to move, how to work with the light, and how to guide a couple that loves aesthetics but still wants to feel natural.

An elegant dinner in front of the semicircular terrace

When everyone returned from sunset portraits, the tables were ready in a beautifully coherent setting: sage-green tones, matching chairs and napkins, menus designed by the bride with a small red detail and a modern typeface, white hydrangeas, and a very polished overall styling.

Dinner took place in front of the semicircular terrace, accompanied by the estate’s red wine. The menu told a very Tuscan story: pappa al pomodoro, a pistachio pasta course, meat cooked in Chianti with roasted potatoes, and finally a millefeuille with Chantilly cream, almonds, and berries. The groom’s strong attention to the wine selection added another refined layer to the whole dinner experience.

A joyful evening of speeches and dancing

After moving and beautifully delivered speeches, the evening continued with dancing and real celebration. It was an elegant wedding, but never rigid. The presence of children, Dutch friends, family, and the Tuscan landscape made everything feel more alive and genuine.

Wedding photography in Tuscany for meaningful weddings at Rignana

This wedding at Fattoria Villa di Rignana shows one of the most beautiful sides of destination weddings in Tuscany: the kind where refinement never overwhelms spontaneity, and aesthetics never replace human connection. In a historic Chianti estate surrounded by organic wine production, olive trees, a panoramic pool, and the soft light of early September, Luisa and Thomas’s day was a perfect example of an elegant and deeply human celebration.

Working in wedding photography in Tuscany and wedding photography in Florence means being able to tell both stories at once: the beauty of the place and the truth of the people within it.
