A wedding in Pisa, in the heart of the city

We often photograph destination weddings in Tuscany, with international couples choosing the countryside, the hills, and the large villas surrounded by nature. That is why photographing a wedding entirely in Pisa, in the very center of the city, felt especially meaningful. It was beautiful to remain in the city, to experience a truly local wedding, and to see Pisa from a different perspective: not as a passing landmark, but as an intimate, elegant, and deeply personal setting.

Caterina and Andrea’s wedding had exactly this quality: a measured, understated beauty and a very refined atmosphere. There were two close families, many friends, and a strong emotional core, all within a tone that felt elegant but never ostentatious.

Caterina and Andrea: understated elegance and quiet character

Caterina had an essential and refined style that matched the mood of the entire day. Her dress was elegant, clean, and restrained, and every detail of her look spoke of discretion and taste. From her Manolo Blahnik shoes to her round bouquet of small roses and eucalyptus in soft tones, everything felt beautifully coherent.

Andrea wore blue and got ready at home with his sister, her little daughter, and the rest of the family. He carried the same calm and understated tone that defined the whole wedding. Together, they were a very reserved, elegant couple, never loud in their presence, but unmistakably graceful.

A Romanesque church ceremony in Pisa

The ceremony took place in a beautiful Pisan Romanesque church, in a setting that felt deeply traditional and solemn. Very little else needed to be added: the atmosphere of the church, the presence of friends and family, and the collected rhythm of the celebration already expressed the spirit of the wedding perfectly.

Pisa preserves some of the most significant examples of local Romanesque architecture, and celebrating a wedding in a church like this means beginning the day in a space that feels historical, sober, and visually strong. The monumental urban fabric of Pisa, especially around Piazza del Duomo, remains one of the city’s defining characteristics.

Domus Comeliana: a unique venue beneath the Leaning Tower

After the ceremony, the reception took place at Domus Comeliana, one of the most scenic and distinctive venues in Pisa. Its official website describes it as an exclusive historic venue in the heart of Pisa, designed for refined and memorable events, with indoor rooms, a terrace, and gardens facing the Piazza dei Miracoli area.

Its position is truly extraordinary. Official sources state that Domus Comeliana stands in Piazza del Duomo, along the lawn of the monumental complex, just steps from the Leaning Tower.

Its gardens are attached to the ancient city walls, and the terrace enjoys privileged views over the Cathedral and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The venue brochure explicitly describes the terrace as overlooking Piazza dei Miracoli and connecting the upper and lower gardens with the indoor spaces.

For anyone looking for a wedding photographer in Pisa, it is difficult to imagine a more iconic setting.

Photographing the couple beneath the Leaning Tower

One of the most memorable parts of the day was the portrait session with the couple directly beneath the Tower. It was a rare and unforgettable experience: photographing a local Pisan couple in one of the most symbolic places in the city, but with a quiet, intimate gaze that felt far removed from the usual tourist image.

The portraits followed their character: calm, gentle, and delicate. There was nothing excessive, nothing overly posed. Just the two of them, their shy elegance, and a city that, for once, became the background to a truly local love story.

Aperitivo in the gardens and dinner overlooking Piazza dei Miracoli

While the couple were away for portraits, guests began aperitivo at Domus Comeliana. The venue offers multiple possibilities between gardens, terrace, and indoor rooms for cocktails, dinners, and receptions, emphasizing the flexibility of its spaces for elegant events and weddings.

Dinner was one of the most beautiful moments of the day. The styling, with white flowers and countless candles, felt deeply elegant. Everything appeared harmonious: formal but never cold, scenic but never excessive. Even with nearly 200 guests, the evening still felt coherent and intimate, thanks both to the strength of the venue and the quality of the overall atmosphere.

The terrace and gardens of Domus Comeliana are among its strongest features, precisely because of their direct relationship with Piazza dei Miracoli and Pisa’s monumental heart.

An elegant reception accompanied by piano music

During dinner, a pianist accompanied the reception with music that felt sober and elegant, perfectly aligned with the tone of the day. It reinforced the atmosphere of the wedding: composed, refined, and full of grace.

It was one of those receptions in which every element seemed naturally to find its place: the flowers, the evening light, the families, the monument views, and the quiet rhythm of a celebration that was never loud, yet deeply felt.

A fruit cake and a joyful, tender celebration

The cake cutting featured a beautiful multi-tiered fruit cake, highly scenic and perfectly in tune with the style of the wedding. Then came the dancing: first a very romantic and tender first dance, followed by a lighter, more playful atmosphere with friends, in a celebration that managed to remain elegant while also becoming lively and warm.

And that was exactly what made Caterina and Andrea’s wedding so beautiful: it was different from many of the weddings we usually photograph, more urban, more local, more traditional, yet no less emotional or memorable.

This wedding at Domus Comeliana shows beautifully a possibility that is often overlooked: getting married in the heart of Pisa and hosting a reception of extraordinary charm without ever leaving the city. Domus Comeliana presents itself as a historic residence dedicated to weddings, receptions, and exclusive events in the shadow of the Leaning Tower, within Pisa’s monumental core.

For anyone looking for a wedding photographer in Pisa, this kind of celebration shows how much the city can offer: history, architecture, light, intimacy, and a setting that needs no introduction. And for couples who love Tuscany but want something different from the countryside, Pisa can be a surprisingly elegant and unforgettable choice.
