A wedding at Borgo Sant’Ambrogio in the heart of Tuscany

Some places manage to feel both cinematic and intimate at once. Borgo Sant’Ambrogio, near Pienza, is one of them. The official website describes it as a historic residence surrounded by nature, in the heart of Tuscany between the Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia, with a strong identity built around hospitality and events.

For couples dreaming of a wedding in Tuscany, this is an especially beautiful venue. It is not simply a villa, and not just a resort: it is a true hamlet made up of several historic buildings on different levels, with gardens and open views. The venue’s wedding page states that the park, the intimate chapel, and the halls can all be used for civil, Catholic, or symbolic ceremonies, which says a lot about how versatile the property is.

As wedding photographers in Tuscany, this is exactly what we love about Borgo Sant’Ambrogio: the chance to build a different visual story every time, while always working inside an extraordinary landscape.

Borgo Sant’Ambrogio: an elegant hamlet near Pienza

One of the most beautiful aspects of this venue is its structure. The borgo unfolds as a group of historic buildings connected by gardens and internal paths, in a position that opens beautifully onto the countryside. Official descriptions refer to a property surrounded by hectares of unspoiled nature, with an organic farm, hospitality spaces, and event areas.

Its proximity to Pienza makes everything even more compelling. Pienza is one of the emblematic destinations of Val d’Orcia, known for its Renaissance urban vision and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

For anyone looking for a wedding photographer in Pienza or a wedding photographer in Tuscany, Borgo Sant’Ambrogio is a perfect venue because it combines architecture, gardens, light, and landscape in a very harmonious way.

Cassia and Moritz: a creative wedding with real character

Cassia and Moritz’s wedding had a very strong personality. They are Austrian, but their world feels deeply international — one shaped by artists, architects, graphic designers, and creative people. That sensitivity could be felt in every detail.

Cassia had a distinctly modern elegance: short blonde hair in a neat bob, a clean and refined dress, flat sandals, irregular jewelry with mismatched earrings, and makeup done with the help of friends. She was a minimalist bride in the best sense — contemporary, strong, and far from the more traditional princess ideal. Moritz was slightly more classic in his outfit, but lively, warm, and full of energy.

Graphic design, acid yellow, and a playful visual identity

One of the most memorable elements of the wedding was the graphic direction, designed by the bride herself. Cassia, who is a very talented graphic designer, created the invitations, ceremony booklets, and the entire visual identity of the day. The dominant color was an acid yellow, used in a way that felt smart, witty, and modern.

This detail worked perfectly with the overall tone of the celebration: elegant, but never rigid; creative, but always very clean. It was the kind of aesthetic often found in the world of designers, architects, and artists — a refined, recognisable kind of elegance.

A ceremony in the shade among the cypress trees

The ceremony took place in a cool and shaded part of the property, surrounded by cypress trees. Borgo Sant’Ambrogio offers different spaces for ceremonies, including the park, chapel, and indoor halls, making it possible to choose the setting that best suits the season and the style of the wedding.

In this case, the choice was perfect. Minimal chairs, the couple standing in front of everyone, a friend officiating, soft light, and that same quiet elegance reflected in all the guests. It was refined, but still deeply human and spontaneous.

A relaxed aperitivo on the lawn

After the ceremony, Cassia and Moritz took a few portraits with their very young child, and then joined the guests for aperitivo. This is where the day revealed another of Borgo Sant’Ambrogio’s strengths: its ability to transform itself.

On one side there was the formal elegance of the ceremony, and on the other a very young, relaxed, informal aperitivo: children everywhere, people sitting on the grass, friends dancing barefoot, laughter, and the feeling of simply being happy together. This versatility of the venue — already evident in the multiple spaces described by the official site — is exactly what makes it so suitable for very personal weddings.

Couple portraits in the stone courtyard

The couple and family portraits took place in the beautiful courtyard of the palazzo, framed by stone arches and warm-toned walls. It is one of the most evocative corners of the property, and ideal for portraits that feel more intimate and natural.

Cassia and Moritz are both quite shy, so they did not want to spend too much time on constructed poses. They preferred images that felt real, informal, and free of artifice. We also created a small film photography session for them, which suited the tone of the wedding perfectly: artistic, essential, and honest.

A minimalist dinner in the courtyard

By the time they returned, the courtyard had been prepared for dinner with round tables, minimalist decorations, and a very strong graphic coherence. It was a style we genuinely love: clean, measured, elegant, without excess.

The courtyard layout also protected everyone from the cooler evening air, creating a space that felt sheltered and warm. The speeches were emotional and intense, and there was a very clear sense that this day had brought together people from different backgrounds and made them feel part of the same celebration.

Polish vodka, a joyful cake cutting, and no first dance

One of the most personal details of the day was the gift Cassia brought for her friends: bottles of Polish vodka, which added another cultural layer to the wedding.

The cake cutting, like everything else, felt fun and completely natural. And the same was true of the party. There was no traditional first dance. Cassia changed into a black dress and simply began dancing with everyone else, as if it were a normal night out in a club with friends. It was a wonderful ending — free, contemporary, and entirely true to them.
