Natural, relaxed and documentary couple photography in the heart of Tuscany. A quiet walk through Florence, real moments together and photographs that feel like you—not like a performance. Florence is one of those rare cities where beauty is everywhere, but the photographs we care about most are never only about the setting. They are about the way you look at one another, the small gestures that happen without thinking and the feeling of sharing a place together.
An engagement session in Florence can become part of your journey through Italy: a morning spent walking beside the Arno, crossing Ponte Vecchio before the city gets busy, wandering through Piazza della Signoria and watching Florence slowly appear beneath you from Piazzale Michelangelo.
At Duesudue Wedding, we photograph couples with a natural and documentary approach. We offer gentle guidance when it is useful, but we do not turn
your time together into a sequence of poses. Our aim is simple: to create honest, emotional photographs while allowing you to enjoy the experience.

More Than an Engagement Photoshoot
Many couples tell us the same thing before their session: “We are not comfortable in front of the camera.”
That is completely normal. Most of the people we photograph have never had a professional couple session before, and they do not need to arrive knowing how to pose. An engagement photoshoot should not feel like a test or a performance. It should feel like time set aside for the two of you.
We walk, talk and explore Florence together. You may stop beside the river, share a coffee, watch the light change across the stone façades or simply continue a
conversation while we photograph quietly. When you stop thinking about what the camera is doing, the expressions become more natural and the images become more personal.
Years from now, we do not want you to remember where we asked you to place your hands. We want you to remember the atmosphere of Florence, the excitement of your engagement and how it felt to experience that moment together.
Why Choose Florence for Your Engagement Photos?
Florence combines history, architecture, warm Tuscan light and an intimate human scale. Within a relatively small area, it is possible to move from Renaissance squares to quiet riverside streets, elegant colonnades and panoramic viewpoints. This variety makes the city ideal for a relaxed engagement session without spending most of the time travelling between locations.
The historic centre also gives us the freedom to build a route around the light and the rhythm of the morning. Instead of treating Florence as a checklist of monuments, we use the city as a thread connecting real moments. Famous places appear in the photographs, but they never become more important than the couple.
An engagement session in Florence can be especially meaningful when you are:
- planning a destination wedding in Tuscany;
- visiting Italy after getting engaged;
- organising a surprise proposal in Florence;
- celebrating an anniversary or honeymoon;
- looking for natural images for your wedding website or Save the Date;
- hoping to feel more relaxed in front of the camera before your wedding.

Our Natural and Documentary Approach
We believe in reality over trends. Our photography is documentary and intuitive, focused on genuine human connection rather than a catalogue of poses. This is the
same philosophy we bring to every wedding and every couple session.
We observe rather than direct.
This does not mean leaving you without any help. We choose flattering light, suggest a comfortable route and offer simple guidance whenever it can make the experience easier. What we avoid is controlling every movement or asking you to repeat the same gesture until it looks perfect.
We are interested in the moments between the expected photographs: a quiet smile, a hand reaching for the other, an unexpected laugh, the pause before a kiss or the way you look at Florence together. These small moments are often the ones that reveal most about a relationship.
You can read more about our philosophy on our wedding photography experience page and learn more about us on the Duesudue Wedding about page.

The Best Places for Engagement Photos in Florence
Florence offers many beautiful settings, but a successful session is not about squeezing every landmark into two hours. We prefer to select a coherent route and allow enough time for the photographs to unfold naturally.
The best route depends on the season, sunrise time, your accommodation, the atmosphere you prefer and whether you would like a panoramic view or a more intimate walk through
the historic centre. These are four of our favourite locations.
Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River
Ponte Vecchio is one of the most recognisable symbols of Florence. During the day it can be extremely busy, but at sunrise it reveals a quieter and more intimate side. The shutters are still closed, the first light reflects on the Arno and the bridge becomes a place to walk rather than a crowded attraction.
We do not need to stop in the centre of the bridge and create a formal pose. Walking towards the river, leaning briefly beside the view or continuing a conversation can create stronger images because the moment still belongs to you.
The surrounding Lungarni also provide open views, reflections and elegant city architecture. A short walk around Ponte Vecchio gives us a mix of close, emotional frames and wider photographs that immediately locate your story in Florence.

The Uffizi Courtyard
The exterior courtyard of the Uffizi offers long perspectives, stone columns, symmetry and soft reflected light. Its architecture creates a refined setting that
feels elegant without requiring formal posing.
This area works beautifully as a connection between Piazza della Signoria and the Arno. We can move through the colonnades, use the geometry of the buildings and then reach the river within a few minutes. This continuity helps the session feel like a real walk rather than a sequence of disconnected locations.The Uffizi is also an important part of Florence’s artistic identity. Couples who wish to plan a museum visit separately can find official visitor information on the official Uffizi Galleries website.

Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio
Piazza della Signoria is the civic heart of Florence. Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi and the sculptures surrounding the square create layers of history and architecture in every direction.
In the early morning, the square feels spacious and unexpectedly calm. This allows us to photograph movement through the piazza, a spontaneous embrace beneath the arches or a quiet pause near Palazzo Vecchio without the visual distraction of the daytime crowds.
Rather than using the square only as a postcard background, we let its scale and texture become part of the story. The contrast between monumental architecture and an intimate gesture can make these photographs particularly powerful.
For cultural and historical information about the square, see the official Visit Tuscany guide to Piazza della Signoria.

Piazzale Michelangelo
Piazzale Michelangelo offers the classic panoramic view of Florence: the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, the Arno and the surrounding hills all appear in a single landscape.
The view is spectacular, but our photographs are still centred on the two of you. We may invite you to walk along the terrace, look across the city together or simply enjoy a quiet moment while Florence opens below. The panorama gives context, while your connection gives the image meaning.
Piazzale Michelangelo can work at sunrise or near sunset. Sunrise is quieter and softer; sunset is warmer and more animated. The best choice depends on the season and on whether you prefer privacy or the energy of the city.

Sunrise or Sunset: What Is the Best Time?
For most engagement photography in central Florence, we recommend sunrise. Florence is one of the most visited cities in Italy, and its most famous locations can become crowded soon after the morning begins. Starting early gives us quieter streets, softer light and more freedom to work without constantly avoiding groups of visitors.
Why choose sunrise?
- Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria are considerably quieter.
- The light is soft and flattering.
- Summer temperatures are more comfortable.
- The photographs feel intimate and less visually crowded.
- You still have the rest of the day free to explore Florence.
When can sunset work well?
Sunset can be beautiful in spring, autumn and winter, especially at Piazzale Michelangelo or along the Arno. It offers warm light and a more lively urban atmosphere. However, it also requires accepting more people in the background and less flexibility in the busiest locations.
We will suggest a starting time based on the date of your session, because sunrise and sunset change considerably throughout the year.
The Best Season for Engagement Photography in Florence
Spring
Spring offers mild temperatures, fresh colours and comfortable mornings. It is one of the most popular periods for Florence engagement photos, so an early start is especially helpful.
Summer
Summer brings long days and beautiful early light, but central Florence can become very hot. A sunrise engagement session is normally the best option, both for comfortand for quieter streets.
Autumn
Autumn is one of our favourite seasons. The light is warm, temperatures are usually pleasant and the colours of Tuscany begin to change. It is also an excellent moment to combine Florence with the countryside.
Winter
Winter reveals a quieter, more atmospheric Florence. The light remains soft for longer, heavy tourist traffic is reduced and elegant coats or layered outfits can give the photographs a timeless character.
How a Florence Engagement Session Works
Before the session, we will discuss your travel dates, accommodation, preferred atmosphere and any plans you already have in Florence. We then suggest a route and a starting time that make sense for the light and season.
On the day, we meet in an easy-to-find location and begin with a relaxed walk. The first few minutes are simply an opportunity to talk and become comfortable. There is no need to start posing immediately.
A typical central Florence session may include:
- meeting near Piazza della Signoria or the Uffizi;
- walking through the Uffizi courtyard;
- reaching the Arno and Ponte Vecchio;
- exploring quieter streets nearby;
- finishing with a coffee or a final riverside walk.
Piazzale Michelangelo can be included depending on the selected route and the time available. Because it sits above the historic centre, it may work better as the starting or final location rather than as a rushed stop in the middle.
Most sessions last between 90 minutes and two hours. This is usually enough time to create variety while keeping the experience relaxed. A longer session can be arranged when you would like to include multiple outfits, a proposal, a more extensive walk or a second setting.
What to Wear for Engagement Photos in Florence
The best outfit is one that feels comfortable, reflects your personality and allows you to walk naturally through the city. You do not need to dress in a way that feels unfamiliar simply because the photographs are professional.
Neutral and earthy tones often work beautifully with Florence’s warm stone: ivory, cream, beige, olive, brown, soft blue and muted colours. Natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, wool and silk also photograph well because they move and respond to light in an organic way.
A few useful suggestions
- Coordinate rather than wearing identical outfits.
- Avoid very large logos and extremely busy patterns.
- Choose comfortable shoes for cobbled streets.
- Bring a second pair of shoes only when it is genuinely useful.
- Consider the season and early-morning temperature.
- Wear something in which you still recognise yourselves.
Flowing dresses can create movement, but they are not a requirement. A simple shirt, well-cut trousers, an informal dress or a favourite jacket can feel equally timeless.
The connection between you will always matter more than the styling.
Can We Combine Florence with the Tuscan Countryside?
Yes. Many couples spend several days in Tuscany and would like photographs that show both the elegance of Florence and the open landscape of the countryside. Chianti, Val d’Orcia, olive groves, vineyards and small hill towns create a completely different visual atmosphere.
We normally recommend treating the city and countryside as two distinct experiences rather than trying to fit too much into a short session. This allows us to work with the best light in each place and gives you time to enjoy both settings.
If you are planning a destination wedding, the engagement session can also take place near your venue. This may be a meaningful way to become familiar with the area before the wedding and create a set of photographs with a quieter, more rural character.
Browse a real wedding at Fattoria and Villa di Rignana or discover our wedding photography in Val d’Orcia for examples of how we photograph the Tuscan landscape.

Why Have an Engagement Session Before Your Wedding?
An engagement session gives us the opportunity to meet without the timeline and emotion of a wedding day. You can understand how we work, discover that you do not need to perform for the camera and arrive at your wedding already feeling at ease.
The photographs can also be used for:
- Save the Date cards;
- wedding invitations;
- your wedding website;
- a printed guest book;
- welcome signs or stationery;
- prints for your home;
- a personal record of your time in Italy.
More importantly, the engagement deserves to be remembered in its own right. Wedding photography tells the story of one extraordinary day; an engagement session can preserve something quieter and equally meaningful.
Planning a Surprise Proposal in Florence?
Florence is also a beautiful place for a proposal. We can help you select a location, choose the most suitable time and agree on a discreet plan so the moment remains a surprise.
After the proposal, the experience can continue naturally as a short engagement session. This creates a complete story: the anticipation, the proposal itself, the first reactions and the walk through Florence afterwards.
When contacting us, share the date, your preferred location and anything that may help us understand your plans. We will keep all communication discreet.

Florence Engagement Photography: Frequently Asked Questions
How long does an engagement session in Florence last?
Most sessions last between 90 minutes and two hours. This provides enough time to create variety without turning the experience into a rushed tour of landmarks.
What is the best time for engagement photos in Florence?
Sunrise is usually the best choice for the historic centre because the streets are quieter and the light is soft. Sunset can work well at Piazzale Michelangelo and along the Arno, particularly outside the hottest summer months.
Do we need to know how to pose?
No. Most of our couples have never had professional photographs taken together. We provide gentle guidance and focus on movement, conversation and real interaction rather than complicated poses.
Can you help us choose the locations?
Yes. We recommend a route based on your date, preferred atmosphere, accommodation, available light and the amount of time you would like to spend together.
Can we include Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi and Piazza della Signoria?
Yes. These locations are close enough to form a natural walking route through the centre. We will suggest the best order according to the starting time and crowd levels.
Can Piazzale Michelangelo be included?
Yes. Because it is above the historic centre, it needs to be planned carefully. Depending on the session, it may be better as the starting point, finishing point or a separate short section.
What happens if it rains?
When possible, we reschedule the session during your stay. Light rain or changing weather does not necessarily prevent us from photographing, and Florence can be especially atmospheric after rainfall.
What should we wear?
Choose comfortable clothing that feels like you. Neutral colours and natural fabrics work well with Florence’s architecture, but authenticity matters more than following a strict style guide.
Can we change outfits?
A change can be included in a longer session, but changing clothes also reduces the time available for photography. One carefully chosen outfit is often enough for a relaxed central Florence session.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes. Dogs are welcome and can make the photographs even more personal. Let us know in advance so we can plan a suitable route and pace.
Can we use the photos for our wedding invitations?
Yes. Couples often use their photographs for Save the Dates, invitations, wedding websites, guest books and prints.
Do you also photograph proposals?
Yes. We can help plan a discreet surprise proposal and continue with a couple session immediately afterwards.
Do you photograph couples outside Florence?
Yes. We work throughout Tuscany and across Italy. Your session can take place in Chianti, Val d’Orcia, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, at your wedding venue or in another place that is meaningful to you.
How far in advance should we book?
Booking early is recommended during spring, summer and autumn, particularly when your travel dates are fixed. Last-minute availability may still be possible.
How will we receive the photographs?
Your edited photographs will be delivered through a private online gallery, ready to view, download and share.
